Warren Haynes Ashes and Dust

Warren Haynes Ashes and Dust is a tremendous new album from the Gov’t Mule artist. If you are expecting his usual high octane blues rock music, you will be disappointed. This is an entire album of Americana backed up by the experienced talents of the Railroad Earth band.
Most of the songs on here are written by Warren Haynes, but, there is a great cover of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Gold Dust Woman’ which he duets with Grace Potter.
Aside from the usual high quality guitar playing of Warren Haynes, there are some great additions by Tim Carbone on violin and John Skehan playing mandolin which all combine to give the album its distinctively bluegrass flavour.

Don’t expect 3 minutes of pop song length here. Most are great 5 or 6 minute classic ballads

If I had to pick one track off the whole 2 CDs, I think I would have to pick ‘Stranded In Self Pity’ although in my honest opinion, there isn’t a bad track on there. I did think twice before I purchased a copy as I’d heard it was quite different to anything Warren Haynes has done before. I’m so glad that my curiosity got the better of me. This is going to be a classic album and it is up there with anything that Warren Haynes has done before.
