The Who Won’t Get Fooled Again

I don’t know if any of you can recall The Who when they played with their original members of John Entwistle, Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend and Keith Moon? Well, they really were something extraordinary and they played loud too! Won’t Get Fooled Again has always been one of my favourite tunes by the band. So I was so pleased when I came across this video on Youtube.

If you loved the original format of the band, but never saw them live, then this clip is about as close as you’re going to get. Turn the volume up to 11! We get to see just how talented each member was. John Entwistle, his fingers running amok over the strings on his bass, Moonie on the drums, you can’t teach that stuff and of course, Pete Townshend playing, dancing and making the guitar sound only as he can and finally the vocals of superlungs Roger Daltrey.

It’s been 40 years since this performance!

It’s now 40 years since this performance, but, it could have been last night. We lost an enormous talent in Keith Moon, the same year as this recording was made and then of course in 2002 John Entwistle departed this world. Roger and Pete have continued to tour and made some fine albums too, but in my opinion, this video and the song was the pinnacle of The Who’s career.

Pete Townshend suffers with Tinnitus these days and it’s hardly surprising. The one thing I wasn’t keen about the band was when Pete and Keith destroyed their instruments at the end of a show. They cost a small fortune and as an upcoming player myself that could only dream of owning such items, it used to make me feel despondent. Still, it was all part of the act and all I can say is what an act it was.
