Leadbelly The Smithsonian
The Leadbelly Smithsonian Leadbelly Collection. Over at The Smithsonian, they have released a 5 CD box which includes 16 previously unreleased tracks of Leadbelly. Included is a large print 140 page book. The collection contains over 5 hours of music.
Leadbelly, whose real name was Huddie Leadbetter and born c 1888, in the swamplands if Louisiana is one of the great pioneers of American folk music. With his iconic 12 string Stella guitar, the songs kept on coming, ‘The Midnight Special’, ‘The Bourgeois Blues’ and many more.
His songs have been covered by many notable singers and bands ever since, including The Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Little Richard, Frank Sinatra and Tom Waits.
