Davina and The Vagabonds

Davina and The Vagabonds are currently touring the UK as I write (April 2015), and they are creating quite a stir. High energy, sharp-dressed professionalism, Davina commands center stage to front a band that is full of enthusiasm, fun and great musicianship. Influenced by a wide range of music, from Fats Domino to Tom Waits and Aretha Franklin, this powerhouse of a singer is wowing audiences across the US and Europe.

An invitation to play on the world famous ‘Later with Jools Holland’¬† show has to be the major highlight of this UK tour.

Davina Sowers is unique in her performance, both as a singer and piano player. She has been compared to Etta James,¬† Amy Winehouse and Billy Holliday, but the fact remains, there is no comparison! The music is jazzy blues, more New Orleans than Chicago, and is always played with ‘plenty of smiles’. It’s mainly acoustic based performances, with Davina leading the way on piano Greg Beyers on Upright Bass/Cello, Dan Eikmeier Trumpet/Vocals, Ben Link Trombone/Vocals and Connor McRae Hammergren Drums/Vocals.

There have been many great quotes in the press about Davina and The Vagabonds, but this one, by Jim Walsh of The Minnesota Star Tribune sums it all up for me:

‘The up-and-coming blues mama and leader of hard-touring Davina & The Vagabonds lights up the night every time she lends her ample pipes and open heart.’

As she comes to the end of her Spring 2015 tour of the UK, Davina and The Vagabonds have made a huge impression, and a whole lot of new fans with her unique sound and performance. I think we will be seeing and hearing a lot more from this Minnesota lady and her band in the future. She loves the UK and the UK loves her!
